Are Talalay latex foam mattresses safe for those with a latex allergy

Are Talalay latex foam mattresses safe for those with a latex allergy? The short answer is yes, mattresses made using Talalay latex foam are safe for those with latex allergies. However, if you are highly allergic and are still concerned, you can take a sample of the Talalay latex foam to your doctor or allergy specialist for testing.

There are several reasons that Talalay latex foam mattresses are safe for those with latex allergies:

  • The latex is processed using an open cell process, which allows the allergen-causing proteins to be easily washed out of the latex.
  • Talalay latex is cleaned of allergen-causing proteins using a five-stage fresh water washing process, the only one of its kind in the industry. This process involves water jets washing away residual soaps, curing agents, and proteins. Between each set of jets, the products are squeezed to less than 4% of their total thickness to remove the maximum amount of residual materials from deep within the product. See pictures of the process below.

The latex foam in the mattress never comes in direct contact with the skin.

There has never been a single reported case of a latex allergy reaction or death related to latex pillows, mattresses, or cosmetic sponges during the forty-seven years that Latex International has produced latex products.
